So the new year has just begun, and it's the perfect time for some changes and a bit of improvement here and there! It's like they say, new year, new life. Making changes in your physical space, like your workplace or your home, makes you feel different and can be the starting point or even the symbol of a major change in your life. So don't underestimate the power of home improvement and redecorating!
And of course, which place in the world is more important for you than your bedroom? It's the place that you can call your own, and where you rest and spend time. So why not start out the year 2018 with some changes in your bedroom? The way you sleep and rest will change, and with it, your whole life. So let's get started!
Now, the first thing you need to bear in mind is that your bedroom is your space. And for that reason, it should reflect you; who you are, what you like, and what you do every day. It should be convenient and have a place for all your stuff. So the first thing you need to think about when renewing your bedroom, is, who are you and what do you want? What kind of space do you need? What style do you enjoy the most? Once you have that figured out, you are ready to translate all those thoughts and insights into design choices!
Your bedroom is very rarely the place you only use to sleep. You do things in your bedroom, perhaps you dedicate yourself to hobbies or you rest while enjoying some entertainment. So an important design element for your bedroom is the utility aspect. What do you use your bedroom for? - Or even, what would you use it for if you had the chance? As in, the resources, proper space, and the elements needed to do so. Do you like lying down on the bed and watch TV? Or Netflix? Do you like listening to music? Do you like to read, to write, to play video games, to stare through the window on a rainy day? Do you have a huge collection of clothes and/or shoes that require extra size bedroom wardrobes? The design of your new bedroom should incorporate your interests and activities into it, in order to make your bedroom a functional personal space. If more than one people sleep in the same room, all interests should be considered.
Bedrooms are our resting places, so aesthetics play a fundamental role in making these spaces work. Bedrooms should be welcoming, feel comfortable and nice. Add wise touches here and there to make it feel like the place you always want to go to after a hard day of work.
The bed is the central piece of the room, so give it an extra thought. You need to choose pillows and mattresses so they are comfortable to sleep on and cause you no problems like back pain or neck stiffness. A good mattress advisor will be able to show you the kind of product that is best for your interest and your needs. Then you can choose the type of bed, for example fabric beds give you a sense of style and comfort, and Ottoman beds are great for adding more storage space without occupying extra surface in the room.
Once you have selected your bed and your bedclothes, then make the rest of the design match in harmony, like curtains or cushions. For example, think carefully about what kind of matching fabric curtain you are going to choose, so the whole design feels integrated and nice; also, the type of curtain will make a great difference in its functionality, so make sure you check all models available.
Also, remember that no matter how great your design is and how well all the elements are integrated, if they don't look good you will hardly appreciate the quality of the arrangements. In other words, lighting is fundamental to bring the whole set to life. Make sure to install some nice lighting, as well as make sure you have enough natural light to enjoy your bedroom during the day. Illumination is important because most of the time you will spend at your bedroom will be at night or early morning, so make sure you don't underestimate the importance of choosing the right type of lightbulb as well as the lamps that you will incorporate to your design. Add special light accents to strategic points if you feel you need to.
